Drug Addiction

(1)

Drug addiction means a strong desire for a drug which the addict cannot resist. Narcotics like Opium, Heroin, Marijuana, Hashish, LSD and Cocaine are used by the addict. When the person takes them, he gets excited and loses control over himself. Addiction to drug has nowadays become one of the greatest problems in the world. This curse has spread in our country also. Young people who keep bad company may be addicted. Being frustrated in life, some people take to drug which gives them euphoria. But the euphoria is very temporary. It is followed by unhappiness. It tells upon the health of addicts seriously. And the addict meets an untimely death. It also create social problems. Narcotics are very expensive. So, the addict persons resort to stealing, mugging and other crimes to procure money. Strong step should be taken to stop the production and trafficking of drugs. Sufficient clinics should be established to cure drug addiction. But the permanent solution lies in removing frustration, poverty and inequality in the society which cause drug addiction.

Drug Addiction is one of the serious problems of the present times. The narcotics like heroin, hashish, and brown-sugar are commonly called drugs and young men and women either take these drugs orally or inhale their smoke.
Sociologist says that drug-addiction is an addiction which has come to India and other oriental countries from the western-countries. The Indians are aping the west and becoming drug-addicts. In the modern society there are several family-problems. The lack of love and affection forces youths to get addicted to drugs. Sometimes the pressure of addicted friends tempts the youth to become an addict.
Psychologists say that drugs help the addict to escape from the strains and problems of the world. But they damage the nervous system tremendously and shatter the mental make-up of the addicts. It even causes death. Even if the addict gives up taking drugs suddenly he may die. So withdrawal must be done gradually.
Drug-addicts must be treated with love and kindness. The society should take strong measures to control the dishonest businessmen and drug-traffickers. There are laws of drug-control all over the world, yet drug-addiction is increasing gradually. What is needed an anti-drugs consciousness among the youth of the different countries.

Drug addiction means strong attraction for taking harmful drugs. Drug addiction is a serious problem. People become addicted to drugs for many reasons. Frustration is one of them. Unemployment problem, political unrest, family feud, lack of love and affection lead a man to frustration. Drugs addiction destroys us morally, physically and financially. It leads a man to death. It causes cancer, heart disease and other respiratory diseases. It destroys the nerve system of the human body. For this reason, a drug addict cannot lead a normal life. He loses his appetite. He becomes very weak. He loses his energy to work. Drug addiction has a bad effect on the society. It causes social and family terrorism like snatching, hijacking, robbery etc.Thus a drug addict is a burden to his family and society. The youngers of our country are becoming addicted to drug. They are going to the dogs. All should be aware of the harm of drug. Mass media can play a vital role in this regard. Above all, the rules of religion can play the most important role.

Drug addiction means the condition of being unable to stop taking illegal harmful substances that some people smoke or inject. Drugs like heroine, opium, marijuana, morphine, cocaine, phensidyle etc give exciting feelings to those who take these. But frequent taking of these drugs leads a man to certain death. Among the addicted people, the young generation is larger in number.
There are mainly two reasons behind it. First one is young people are more curious. So, whatever they see harmful or useful, they are the first to taste. Again, frustration is another cause of taking drugs. When there is no hope left for the young, they become addicted to drugs. It has become a global problem. Thousands of families in cities, towns and even rural areas all over the world are directly or indirectly affected by it. Drugs have terrible effects on human body. It is a slow poison that damages the brain and all internal functions of the body leading ultimately to death. Again, drug addiction gives birth to new crimes. Drugs are very expensive. So, young people involve in crimes to get money for taking drugs. In Bangladesh drug problem has become a national problem. Bangladesh is often used by the drug dealers as transit from one country to another. In these circumstances, all concerned must create awareness both individually and collectively. The highest punishment of dealing in or smuggling drugs is death in Bangladesh.
The law must be enforced immediately. Parents, teachers must give proper teachings so that children can choose the right thing. This curse can be eradicated only when each and every person of a country becomes aware of it.

It is a curse not only for themselves but also for the full nation which runs them completely. Taking drugs frequently one becomes addicted. So he get accustomed to going with it. There are some effective reasons for drug addiction such as- frustration, bad association, availability of intoxicant, unemployment, failure in love, degradation of religious values, lack of family peace etc. Drugs are expensive. So to manage money the addicts often go for stealing, hijacking, killing and all sorts of misdeeds. Drugs are smuggled into the country. The smugglers carry on drug business freely. As a result, this curse has become widest spread all over the world. This kills drug addicted person slowly but surely. But we cannot allow this to go on unchecked. We must fight against these social cancers. The first thing to do is to highlight its dangerous effect to the people and make them aware of this deadly enemy of social life. The mass media can play an effective role in this respect. Seminars and discussion and debate should be held in schools and colleges and universities. The government alone cannot solve this problem single handed. People must cooperate with it. Otherwise, there will not be any desired result. We should remember the advice, “Prevention is better than cure”.
